Medical Records Coding Program Goal Students will learn: CPT and HCPCS formats Modifier usage Surgery coding, radiology services, pathology and laboratory, evaluation and management services, medicine, anesthesia HCPCS Level II coding Reimbursement in the ambulatory setting The purpose of classification and coding systems The basic characteristics, conventions, symbols, and basic coding principles for physician coding ICD-9-CM coding, including supplementary classification V codes; late effects; signs, symptoms and ill-defined conditions; infectious and parasitic diseases; neoplasms; endocrine, nutritional, and metabolic disorders and immunity disorders; mental disorders; diseases of the nervous system, the blood and blood-forming organs, the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, and genitourinary systems; complications of childbirth; congenital anomalies; diseases of the skin; diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue; injury, poisonings, complications of surgical medical care Overview of coding and reimbursement system Official guidelines for coding and reporting of inpatient and outpatient services Data quality and the prospective payment system Certified Coding Specialist preparation |
