Mackinac Island,
Michigan--Entering The Woodfill Suite at The Grand Hotel on Mackinac
Island, I was awestruck by the black diamonds, rich roses, emerald green
lawn colors, and delicate luxury. |
Entering The Woodfill Suite at
The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island... |

The breathtaking foyer of The Woodfill Suite
The white piano would make anyone sigh with
delight, "Ohhh!"
It's so adorable.

Entering the main room...footprints in the carpet are mine :-)
The Musser Family welcomed me with a champagne and fruit basket and a
beautiful yellow roses bouquet! |

The Grand Life! Wow! |
|
It's pretty tough to leave
the brilliant jade and rose-colored Woodfill Suite.
But Bob Tagatz, The Grand Hotel
Historian and Concierge, waits to guide me on a walking tour of
the Hotel and several Grand Hotel luxury rooms.
My Granny, Lena Spencer, was a friend of Esther Williams, the enchanting
swimming movie star. I mentioned this to Bob when we were setting
up the tour. So, Bob
surprised me right off with my first ever visit to the Esther Williams
Suite. What a priceless treat!
Esther Williams lives in Chicago now,
according to Bob, and visits her Grand Hotel Suite on special occasions. |

"Every one of the 385 rooms
at The Grand Hotel are unique," said Bob. "Every year each
room is thoroughly inspected and improvements are made, where needed,
down to the tiniest detail."
As we visited different rooms throughout The
Hotel, Bob talked about its illustrious history. The Grand Hotel
was originally built in
1887. Famous guests include Bill and Hillary Clinton, John F.
Kennedy, Al Gore, Madonna, Marie Osmond, Barbara Walters, Jane Seymour,
Christopher Reeve, Debra Winger--and, of course, Esther Williams--among many, many
others. Next week, stay tuned for Part 3 of "A Personal View of the
Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island," for more pictures of The Grand Hotel,
including the Theatre, Ballroom, and Dining Room. Let's order Room
Service! Part 3 also
includes a visit to The Butterfly House on Mackinac Island.
The Grand Hotel closed for the season last weekend, along with most of the rest of Mackinac Island.
The
Grand Hotel Opening Day 2008 is May 2nd.
