Marquette, MI--For
those of us fortunate enough to be living in the Upper Peninsula of
Michigan, life today looks very bright. Most of us survive relatively sheltered from disasters, wars, and misfortunes many
people in other parts of the world face. The UP remains almost unchanged through generations. Here we live mostly in joy and peace, and we relish our large wilderness amplified by our small population. We pray for our brave service men and women, and we grieve our dear losses together. If you are one of the happy residents of the Upper Peninsula, you probably live much like most other joyful Yoopers. We embrace the outdoors with reverence and dedication, we believe strongly in personal freedom, we give thanks for our blessings daily, and we always choose quality of life over quantity of material. |

Yoopers are not
perfect, of course. We sometimes suffer, even here in
paradise, with intolerance, hypocrisy, ignorance, isolation, greed,
and other weakness. But mostly we are a generous people who naturally and lovingly navigate the shallow, the deep, and the dense. |
